Unsubscribe newsletter with additional confirmation

September 7, 2026
From now on, unsubscribing from a newsletter must be explicitly confirmed on a separate page. This prevents automatic security checks in email programs from accidentally unsubscribing subscribers.

Some email security programs automatically open all links in a received message to check them for potential threats. Until now, this has also allowed the unsubscribe link in a newsletter to be accessed, thereby immediately removing the associated email address from the mailing list.

When an unsubscribe link is clicked, the subscription is no longer canceled immediately. Instead, a page opens displaying the newsletter title and the message: “Please confirm that you want to cancel your subscription to this newsletter.”

The email address is only removed from the newsletter mailing list after the user clicks the “Confirm unsubscription” button. Simply opening the link does not change the subscription.

The additional confirmation is automatically used for all newsletters. Existing newsletters do not need to be modified, and unsubscribe links that have already been sent or are currently in use will continue to work.

When confirming a newsletter subscription, a corresponding page with the “Confirm subscription” button is now displayed as well.
