YouTube videos in the media element

Videos from YouTube can be embedded directly in the media element by specifying the YouTube ID. In this case, the native YouTube player is used for playback.

The “Decke Pitter” – the Peter's Bell of Cologne Cathedral – celebrated its 100th birthday on May 5, 2023.

To embed a YouTube video, you need the YouTube ID. To obtain this ID, proceed as follows:

  • Create new media content and open it in the form editor.
  • Open a second browser window.
  • In the second browser window, open the post you want to embed on the YouTube website.
  • The browser address bar should now display a URL such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGhJMYTw9zo.
  • The string of characters after https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= is the YouTube ID you are looking for (in this example, HGhJMYTw9zo). Copy this to the clipboard.
  • In the editor, activate the Media type field and select YouTube video.
  • Copy the YouTube ID from the clipboard into the field provided.
