The young filmmakers from Cologne didn't just want to observe the carnival celebrations and conduct interviews; they wanted to let the people themselves show their personal carnival. This is how the idea for the first user-generated documentary film about carnival came about: “Alaaf You.” People shoot their own short films amid the carnival hustle and bustle and send them to the film crew. Eric Benz and Baris Aladag edit these many personal carnival films into a feature-length documentary, which is scheduled for release in theaters in 2015.
