Focal point for images

OpenCms supports setting a focal point for images. This determines which area of the image should be made as central as possible during automatic cropping.

When cropping pictures with people, it can easily happen that heads get “cut off” when cropping automatically.

If you set the focus point correctly, the head will automatically be kept in the generated image section.

The focal point is set directly in the image preview. If the point is not set, a blue circle is displayed in the center of the image. This can be easily moved using the mouse.

The point turns red as soon as it has been set or moved.

The pixel coordinates of the set point are displayed in the dialog box. You can also remove the point again.

Important: The focal point is saved directly on the image. This means that only one point can be set per image. In the rare case that you want to obtain two different image sections—as in this example—the image has to be copied.
