Enhanced image description for people with visual impairments

March 8, 2023
For people with visual impairments, additional text can now be specified for an image via the “Description” file property, which is then output as “alt” text when the image is displayed.

Example of the extended image description

The following image has a different title and alt text. The displayed title is “View across the Rhine to Cologne Cathedral.” The alt text, however, is "Sonnenuntergang fotografiert von der linken Rheinseite. Man sieht den Kölner Dom und die Hohenzollernbrücke".

Sonnenuntergang fotografiert von der linken Rheinseite. Man sieht den Kölner Dom und die Hohenzollernbrücke.

Entering the extended image description

The extended image description can only be entered via the file property Description.

Input fields for the description are available as follows:

  • In the form editor in the preview of an image.
  • In the Workplace in the Explorer-Dialog Optimize Gallery.
  • In the Workplace inthe Explorer-Dialog Properties.

The description is saved directly to the image file. This means that the description is identical wherever the image is used.
