In 1164, Rainald von Dassel, Archbishop of Cologne, brought bones from Milan to Cologne, which were regarded and worshipped as relics of the Three Kings.
These attracted many pilgrims to Cologne. Therefore, around 1225, plans were made to build Cologne Cathedral. The foundation stone was laid on August 15, 1248, by Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden.
